Following on from yesterday's post about stat priorities, I thought I'd properly introduce the two new tools added to lastrogue.com (the ugly white boxes at the top of the screen that I haven't had chance to style properly!).
The Gem Finder will show you the names of the gems that provided the stats you select from the drop-down menus. It currently just shows the rare-quality gems, but I'll add epic ones as they're made available.
The second tool is the Socket Checker. Recent theorycrafting has shown that PVP power is the best stat to gem for, but socket bonuses mean that you shouldn't just automatically shove Stormy River's Heart into every hole you can find. To use the tool you'll need to select your spec, select the correct colours for the sockets (ignoring any blacksmith sockets you've added) and input the bonus you'd get from correctly socketing your gear. You'll receive two values - one for gemming with PVP power gems, the other for gemming with the correct coloured gems - go for whichever one is higher.
The optimal gems to use for socket bonuses depend on your spec. Red gems are Agility/PVP Power, blue gems are pure PVP Power, and the yellow ones are as follows;
- Preparation/Shadowstep - Mastery and PVP Power (Effulgent Wild Jade or Perfect Effulgent Alexandrite)
- Burst of Speed - Haste and PVP Power (Shattered Wild Jade or Perfect Shattered Alexandrite)
Let me know if you have feedback and suggestions for improvement! One other thing to mention - it's not worth using expertise or hit gems, even if you're not soft-capped (3% for both). You can reforge your gear to those stats but you can't reforge to PVP power.
To anyone who's interested in the math behind this, the stat weights used in the calculations are as follows (thanks go to Hïldegard for posting this info at AJ);
Assassination stat table
Agility 2.7288
PvP Power: 2.2856
Mastery Rating 1.3373
Expertise Rating 1.1302
Haste Rating 1.0777
Crit Rating 0.9973
Combat stat table
Agility 2.77
PvP Power: 2.4664
Expertise Rating 2.3198
Haste Rating 1.6345
Mastery Rating 1.1867
Crit Rating 1.0759
Subtlety stat table
Agility 3.676
PvP Power: 3.092
Haste Rating 1.314
Expertise Rating 1.2664
Mastery Rating 1.1916
Crit Rating 1.1857

Very nice indeed. Congratulations. Keep the good work, dude.
Is pvp power/mastery gems worth over agility stam gems?
Absolutely, though whether you want to take mastery or haste will depend on your spec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q65agWVwnSk is a good video explaining why resilience is better than stamina.
Really nice tool(s) you made here. One thing, though …
What is the stat weight for resi in your calculations? Would be interesting to know, since I, for one, am a JC and fitting a red socket with 320agi is better than fitting it with a 60agi/160 power, meaning I need to do manual math if it’s worth to 160mastery/160 power in the yellow socket for 120resi, or just take 320 power. (Talking about chest here)
Basically, the question goes down to 120 resi + 160 mastery > 160 power?
The same goes for pants, is 60agi + 120 resi > 160 power? (since I would fit the 60agi/160power into the red)
Cheers.
Hi, resilience is a bit of a tricky one as it’s hard to give an offensive value to a defensive stat as resilience doesn’t affect your sustained or burst dps. It’s usefulness depends on how often you find that you’re taking damage. I’ve played two comps in 3s so far, mistweaver/warlock/rogue and mistweaver/shadowpriest/rogue. With the warlock I was tunnelled every game, but with the shadowpriest I was rarely the target. The value of resilience for me in the warlock comp would be higher than in the shadowpriest comp – it’s all down to how often you’re taking damage. Hope that helps!
Great work, one question though:
What are the exp/hit caps for PvP?
Thanks.
You’ll need 3% hit for your special attacks and 3% expertise to negate parry on mages/priests/etc. You can take more expertise but it’s not worth it because you’ll never really be able to stop a warrior from parrying you! You used to need 5% hit vs night elves, but their quickness has been changed to +2% dodge rather than +2% miss.
I was wondering if you could give us an a good right up especially for us assassination/combat guys of what enchants and etc you use. It would be truly helpful.
Hey! Great work!
Btw, I’m a subtlety rogue and I used first crit as a secondary stat in pvp and then I changed it to mastery. I’m unhappy with both. Should I use: agility>pvp power>hit cap>haste? Is agility better that pvp power? Should I stack haste instead of crit, mastery or expertise?
Thank you!
Prioritise pvp power over agility – if you think you can sit on your target without being peeled then haste would be better, but tbh our mobility is so weak atm that the chances of that happening are pretty low. Mastery is still looking like the best choice for rogues :/
